Documenting the story of New Zealand's railway system from the 7km line between Christchurch and Ferrymead, opened in 1863, to the beginning of the Tranz Rail / Toll era in 1955, this DVD contains excellent history footage taken from newsreels of the day and publicity films with some enthusiast footage of steam, desiel and electrically hauled trains in action around New Zealand through the years.

Among the original promotional films featured in their entirety are Railways of the Scenic Wonderland from 1939 and Changing railways/Engines from 1945/57.
