These programmes have been unearthed and restored, and are presented in this “4 x DVD Rail Collection Set”.
Featuring rare and archival footage dating back to 1901, we trace the history of transport routes in New Zealand, looking at various types of steam trains and the journeys they took through our unique landscapes.

Disc One –
Steam Lives On - (48 Minutes) - Features sequences of the 1985 Centennial Special run down the North Islands main trunk railway, combined with two earlier NFU rail films – “KB Country” and “The Ride of 480”.
Main Trunk Special – (44 Minutes) - Features a journey taken by steam train on the main trunk line between Auckland and Wellington.
Disc Two -
Destinations – Rail 125 – (50 Minutes) - An adventurous and vivid portrayal of the life of the New Zealand Railways chronicling the changes through 125 years of rail.
Disc Three -
Steam on Parade – (60 Minutes) - Takes us back to October 1988 when steam returned to the main trunk line to celebrate 125 years of railways and steam trains in New Zealand. This segment includes rare archival footage dating back to 1901.
Disc Four -
Landmarks – The Main Trunk – (50 Minutes) – Professor Kenneth Cumberland traces the history of transport routes in New Zealand.
Let There Be Steam – (32 Minutes) - looks at various types of steam trains and the people who worked with them in the past.
