Running since 1995, Christchurch tram’s an a beloved icon of the city. Since the tramway reopened in 2013 after the Christchurch earthquakes, the trams have been essential in bringing life back to the heart of the Garden city as they squeal along the city streets pass old attractions like the Museum and Art Gallery and new attractions like the Re:Start Mall.
We leave the central business district to travel out east to Ferrymead Heritage Park, home of the Tramway Historical Society. It is here that we find one of only 3 surviving Kitson Steam trams in the world and the only one in operation.
