The ‘Rails Through’ team goes to the North Island for the first time, to New Zealand’s northern most rail locations. Until September 2016, the Far North was home to some unique rail action in the country thanks to it blend of the usual express freights that link Whangarei to Auckland and beyond as well as the last of the four wheel wagons, faithfully delivering low priority logs between Otiria and Portland for processing.
We also visit the Bay of Islands Vintage Railway and Steam North, located at Kiwi North and speak to Labour’s Spokesperson for Transport Sue Moroney about how a change of government can revitalize regional rail.
