RES 60th ANNIVERSARY DVD
The Railway Enthusiasts’ Society was formed in 1958 and celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2018. A feature of the Society’s activities were the numerous rail excursions that were organised during the last few years of steam operation on the NZR. As the decade of the 1950’s drew to an end, interest in the hobby grew to such a level that rail excursions were being run frequently throughout the year.
Through the movie camera lenses of Dawson Wilkinson, Bob Mann, John Wallers, Warren Stirling, Cran Julian and Ross Crook, they captured these historic events that ran to many parts of the country including many branch lines that have long since closed.
1959/60 was the start of the RES Christmas/New Year Rail Tours that saw seventy railfans living and travelling aboard the fully self-contained South Island signal’s train that covered all the lines throughout Otago and Southland.
This DVD production covers over seventy RES excursions from 1958 until 2015.
In it’s 60th year, the Railway Enthusiasts’ Society can be proud of its achievements and history.
